Fennel vs. Bay Leaves

Get out the vote!

Cilantro just barely edged out Curry, and no Mannie it does not taste like soap.  It's my favorite herb, but for the life of me I can't get it to grow in the garden.  It starts out strong, but bolts and flowers immediately.

And now completely random GrowDammit garden pics that we haven't posted for some reason...

Next...Scientific Method.

  1. Fennel... Kicks ASS! I'm feeling inclined to post a recipe with fennel but I'm having some problems with the plumbing...(Kidney stones) So I'll get back at ya on THIS one. Farmer Chele doesn't care for fennel but I like it. It's one of those "What's that taste?" type of herbs... Spices...Vegetables... Whatever. Hang on for the Bouillabaisse... French style. Period.

  3. Yeah Anna.. The root is what I'm talking about. So I was gonna go into a big deal about bouillabaisse but sadly... I feel like shit. Google it, It'll be worth it. This much I can tell ya... Instead of cooking the lobster down to make a stock... Try and find some lobster base. It's one of those things that you'll hafta find online; I've never been able to find it in the store. If you use the base... You'll end up with a richer soup. (It'll give you the taste that you're looking for.) If you were to just use the lobster... It'd take like... A million lobsters, so that's out of the question so try and find the base. I'll throw you a bone on using the fennel root.

Poach the root, (Sliced) in some heavy cream until it's tender. Actually... Cook it until it fuckin' mush because what you're gonna do is fold the mush into some mashed potatoes; (OR) Throw the mush into the blender and make a sauce out of it... It goes GREAT on a piece of white fish but that's about it. Don't try it with red meat... It's just not gonna blend. It'll taste like shit. Trust me. Do it with fish.

Anna and I have gone on and on about fennel and looking at the results of the poll.... Fennel's getting the shit kicked out of it. Oh well. Here's another tip... If you poach the fennel before you use it... It takes some of that licorice taste out of it. I fuckin' hate licorice; Especially black licorice... That's some nasty shit man... Yuk.
