Happy Birthday Farmer Ted!

I wish the weather had been better for the birthday boy, and even though it reached a balmy 44 with the wind it was freaking freezing.  At least we didn't get the forecasted snow showers this morning.  Ted seemed a bit down in the dumps about it, so we took what is becoming our weekly field trip to the Home Depot.  It's a shame they don't serve beer and have a pub like our favorite grocery store, Wegmans.

Wegmans is awesome.  We have a Wegmans Growler that we call Junior.  We go every week to get our growler on and grocery shop.  It makes dealing with those shoppers that must really believe they are the ONLY people shopping that day more tolerable.  You know the ones.  They park their cart in the middle of the aisle and then stand next to it perusing their choices of canned fruit cocktail.  They tear out of an aisle  without stopping to make sure someone who can't see them isn't coming.  They let their spawn run amok with the junior carts.  But, I digress...

At the HD, we got some more material for trellises.  We need two more.  And, we got some stuff so Ted can paint the hallway ceiling this week (hint, hint).

Anyway, Happy Bday Ted!  The fab supper of blackened scallops and mango/pineapple salsa that you made was amazing.  (Hey, I'm not the retired chef!)

Next...I promised you berries.  We want to try branch out with fruit.  Does anyone have any suggestions about the best two species of blueberries to cross-pollinate?  And what's your favorite fig?  There are like  500 varieties.  Who knew?

  1. Sounds like a wonderful birthday dinner. I don't know nuttin' 'bout birthin' no berries, I'm afraid. I just eat 'em :)

  2. Man.... What a nice "Laid back" day. We drank some beer... Threw some cards... It was GREAT!

I agree with Miz. Hotstuff concerning the grocery store. It's almost like you need a fuckin' valium before you go shopping. By the time that we're ready to check out, I'm thoroughly PISSED OFF! Some people are just fuckin' oblivious as what's going on around them and as far as bringing your little "Bad ass" kids to the store? Do yourself a favor... Leave them at HOME! There's nothing worse than a little ill-mannered kid. If you can't control your children.... Please don't make them a problem for me. (Or better yet....) If you can't control your children.... Don't fuckin' have them. There....I'm done with that little rant. Maybe... I dunno. We'll see.

Chele made the slammin' mango and Pineapple salsa for the Scallops last night so I can't take credit for THAT but all in all...The whole meal was p-r-e-t-t-y damn good! We make a pretty good team in the kitchen. Now... For the weather forecast.

Maybe THIS will be the week that I can FINALLY put some plants into the ground. I'm pretty excited as I'm sure that you are too.... Will this be the week? (Answer...) Fuck no... This will NOT be the week. They're calling for a "Wintery Mix." We're almost in April. I'm loosing my sense of humor with the fuckin' weather up here. I'm pissed.

I'm looking to "Find my thrill" on Blueberry hill. We've been doing some research on Blueberries and we've found out that they THRIVE in the chilly weather. I'm hoping that this is a good sign. I need to figure out what's best suited for this region, the "High bush" or the "Low bush" variety. I guess that more research is needed. I got the "Hint" about the ceiling, so guess what I'll be doing today?

  3. Wanna see how the ceiling went? Read our next blog.

  4. Sorry I am late for the party, but Happy Birthday, Farmer Ted! Sounds like you had a pretty rockin' day. =)

  5. It couldn't have been better Mare! Thanks! Come visit our farm!
