Happy Labor Day Y’all

I hope everyone had better weather than we did. It’s been muggy and raining off and on all day. On the bright side, I got breakfast in bed and stayed there watching the Chopped marathon until one-ish. When I realized I wasn’t getting lunch in bed. Oh well, you can’t win ‘em all.

So, Ted did not get to mow the grass today. The backyard is ridiculously long. It’s been too wet to get a push mower through. And it’s just going to get worse because the weather forecast says it going to rain FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. What? We’re going to need a scythe.

I can’t believe nobody has a comment about the lavender vs. sorrel poll. A few have voted. I haven’t made up my mind yet. I’ve never actually cooked with either one of them, even though you can. We have 3 different kinds of lavender growing in the flower garden. I just read about lavender mustard. In my unending quest to find the holy grail of mustard, I might just have to try this. I have a feeling it will disappoint. I like my mustard spicy.

I had to Google sorrel to find out exactly what its culinary use is. Imagine my surprise when I found out that it is actually POISONOUS in large amounts. I will definitely be reading up on ingredients I am unfamiliar with before I use them. I will also be voting for sorrel, because it scares me.

Next…We were going to go on a Night Watch for migratory hawks, but it’s supposed to rain FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. On the upside, we found a remote control tarantula that has never been opened in the game closet.

We named him Fluffy.

  1. OK. I voted for lavender because I love lavender cookies...yum yum. Don't know too much about sorrel...but you asked, so here is my boring, lazy, Labor Day comment. Back to being lazy....thanks. Anna

  2. I remember sorrel from when I was a kid. I was absolutely horse crazy, and in one of the 'Horse Care' books that I read from cover to cover, it mentioned not letting your horse graze in a pasture which contained sorrel; it could make them very, very sick. Weird how that thought popped into my head after all these years. It just proves that we retain info on what we are *really* interested in!

We are under tornado watch today, with warnings thrown in for good measure every hour or so. I knew I should have gotten the lawn mowed yesterday; serves me right! I will not complain, though. Your forcast sucks big times, my friends!

That tarantula? Ranks right up there on the fun factor with the fart machine!

  3. I didn't vote because I didn't want to expose my ignorance to the masses, and risk ridicule.

  4. I'm predicting a lavender blow-out, because sorrel is way too obscure. And I love lavender, although I've never cooked with it.

How does the Dragon feel about Fluffy?

  5. Have never cooked with either, but I voted for lavender. Twice. Apparently, it didn't "take" the first time and it let me do it again. Or maybe it's cookies (dumped mine last night). Hmmm, experiment time....

  6. So what does the Dragon think about Fluffy? We have a video of EXACTLY what The Dragon thinks about Fluffy but We're gonna post THAT little jewel at a later date. Little did we know... But Fluffy has a few hidden talents! (We'll let ya in on THAT too...)

Sorrel vs. Lavender... What kinda lame shit is this. Normally... I'd vote for Sorrel but out of sheer diversity... I had to go with the Lavender. Lavender is good for breads and shit... but that's about it; It's mainly for the aroma. The sorrel is pretty good with a nice piece of Dover Sole... We French Fuckers call it sole de Douvres. What you do is make some Burre Blanc; Blanch off some sorrel then throw it into the food processor and make it into a puree... Then you mix the two together. (Just add enough Sorrel to the Burre Blanc to give it a green(ish) color. If you wanted to come off at the next dinner party like you're "King Shit..." Instead of using Sorrel... Use baby spinach in the same way that you would the Sorrel. (Yeah... You can totally tell your guests that it's fuckin' spinach but you just sound so much classier if you were to take the "low road" and lie and say that it's Sorrel.) I mean... The color Green is the color Green.

So we stayed in all day and played cards and board games. (Yeah... We're livin' on the edge Man...) During our power cut last week, we played the old school game "Risk" with the youngest spawn. (He kicked the livin' shit out of us.) It figures as much.... Ask him what his goals in life are and He doesn't miss a beat when he says..."World Domination." Well... If you're gonna set goals... They might as well be lofty.
